Climate change, issues relating to natural resources and the impact of chemicals on people and nature are all important areas where tougher demands are constantly being placed on companies. Within Nynas these kinds of matters are dealt with primarily by a joint company staff unit for health, safety and the environment (HSE). This staff unit’s responsibility includes drawing up appropriate documents of requirements and making sure that there is continuous internal sharing of knowledge and experience.
For natural reasons, the petroleum industry is in the spotlight as far as environmental impact is concerned. Nynas, however, differs from traditional oil companies in a very specific way. For us the focus is not on petrol and other fuels, but we manufacture special products with a high degree of durability. Bitumen is used, for example, in roads and our naphthenic specialty oils (NSP) are found in everything from transformers to car tyres and graphical paint.
Our aim is to develop products and to run a business that meets our customers’ strict demands while at the same time minimising the risk of harm to people’s health and the external environment. Successful work in the field of HSE is an important element of our ambition to be and to be perceived as a positive force in society. Our efforts are evaluated on an ongoing basis by means of so-called Key Performance Indicators (KPIs).
